Bonny Apunyu

(SomaliNet) Guinea’s President Lansana Conte has been regarded as no longer fit to rule Guinea by Unions leading an indefinite general strike in the West African country saying the veteran should step aside.

Meanwhile, soldiers and police have been patrolling the streets of the Guinean capital Conakry against looters since the stoppage, the third nationwide labour protest called by unions in a year.

"We told the president that given the state of his health he is no longer fit to govern this country," Ousmane Souare, a main union negotiator, told Reuters after union leaders met Conte late on Friday.

The president asked them to put their demands in writing.

"We've included this point in the document that we are going to present to him. In the meantime, the strike continues," Souare said.-Reuters.
