SUDAN GOVERNMENT DISMISSES HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT AS ANTI MUSLIM December 13, 2005

Apunyu Bonny

(SomaliNet) The Sudanese Government has dismissed a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report accusing it of abuses in Darfur and calling for government members to be prosecuted, reports BBC Tuesday. The Government of Sudan says HRW is biased and anti-Muslim.

President Omar al-Bashir and this team say the HRW is ridiculous because it is based on the propaganda of rebel groups. Sudanese Government maintains that any crimes in Darfur should be tried by Sudanese courts.

The report says Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and 20 other officials should be investigated for ordering or carrying out atrocities in the western region of Darfur.

The report is for use by the International Criminal Court (ICC) as it investigates allegations of war crimes in the region where war between pro-government militias and rebels continues.
