(SomaliNet) Kenya is set to receive Shs100 million in aid from South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL). Speaking during a press conference attended by Fifa recognized Kenya Football Federation chairman, Alfred Sambu and Fifa backed secretary general Moni Wekesa, PSL’s brand marketing manager Peter Mancer, said the money would be injected to kick start a professional league in Kenya which will be effected next season (2006/07).

Kenya Premier League officials in attendance included vice-chairman Bob Munro, Shabana chairman Sam Nyamweya, AFC Leopards chairman Sobbie Mulindi, Thika United vice-chairman Gerald Chege and KPL managing director, Jack Oguda. Mancer said the money would be released once the PSL and the sponsor are satisfied the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) wrangles have been resolved. He said the money would be injected directly to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) Company. Mancer however, declined to name the sponsor. "The formation of a professional soccer league should assist Kenya's ambitions to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa," Mancer said.

He also said that this initiative in Kenya is pivotal in putting up a formidable national team to meet the challenges of international assignments claiming that proper organization and professionalism has enabled emerging nations to qualify for the World Cup at the expense of giants.

At next year's World Cup in Germany, Africa will be represented by four nations, which have never been to the World Cup namely Togo, Angola, Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana save for Tunisia.
