KENYA: FEMALE BOXER WINS MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD TITLE December 27, 2005

(SomaliNet) Kenyans on Saturday 24th were overwhelmed when their own Conjestina Achieng blocked Argentine Guillermina Fernandez to sleep walking her win to the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) middleweight world title.

One minute and 42 seconds was enough for Achieng to finish the Argentine after a flurry of punches that prompted coach Carlos Herrera to throw in the towel.

Fans felt cheated by the Argentine's flair and pace as she at no time posed threat to the Kenyan glamor girl. Guillermina didn't look like a boxer and was backtracking all the way as if to shirk from Achieng's onslaught.

"It was just as I had predicted that she would kiss the canvass soon after the opening gong. I had trained for six months and I am now calling on the big girls of the middleweight to come forward and challenge me. They have been avoiding me all through but now their days are numbered," a jubilant Achieng said.

Achieng, who lost two of her titles early last month, said the WBF would open doors for bigger fights abroad. She is planned to fight American Yvonne Reiss for the World Boxing Council world title in March in Nairobi.
