(SomaliNet) A sum of Sh3.8 billion in loan from the World Bank is to be given to Kenya to fight Aids in the next four years. A funding, which will cover 2006 to 2009, comes as a result of the expiry of the previous World Bank Kenya HIV/Aids Disaster Response Project on December 31. Reports Daily Nation

National Aids Control Council director, Patrick Orege said yesterday that the money could be released in March to reach projection implementation agencies soon after.

Dr. Orege said about Sh2.4 million would go into community initiatives, but private organisations may apply for consideration.

"In readiness for the new project, the council, for example, has strengthened grassroots structures such as constituency Aids control councils to ensure local communities benefit," Orege said.

The World Bank has given the council a three-month extension to account for the just ended project.
