SOMALIA: BARRE HIRALE BACK IN KISMAYO AFTER THE KILLING OF UN WORKER October 4, 2005
Kismayo ruler, Mr. Barre Adan Shire (Hirale) left Mogadishu in a hurry this morning after a UN staff member was fatally shot in Kismayo yesterday evening. The motive behind the murder of Mr. Mohamud Muse Gurage who was walking to his home at the time of the shooting is not yet known.
Although Kismayo city, somalia’s third largest city has been relatively safe and stable for sometime, frequency of clashes between police and armed groups in the city increased in the past two weeks after Mr. Shire went to Mogadishu for national matters. He is now back in Kismayo and promised to do whatever it takes to bring those behind the killing of the UN staff member to justice.
Kismayo regional administration is asking the UN and other international humanitarian organizations not to be alarmed by this incident and to keep working in the region.
