SOMALIA: THE UNITED NATION'S REPORT ON SOMALIA DRUG BUSINESS CHALLENGED October 12, 2005

As we promised yesterday when we reported about the alleged Somali drug cartel, Sheik Indha Adde, we now have his side of the story. SomaliNet reporter, Hassan Ali Mohamed interviewed Sheik Yussuf Mohamed Siad (Indha Adde) and asked him about the United Nations allegations involving him. Somalis all over the world were shocked by yesterday’s report since the words Sheik and "Drug Dealer" do not go together in Somali society.

Sheik Indha Adde denied the report and dismissed it as baseless lie and unnecessary false propaganda against him. He said his administration is the forefront in fighting illegal drugs in Somalia. "We have video footages and other evidences showing how we confiscate and burn illegal narcotics." he said.

Lower Shabelle administration will hold a press conference about the United Nation's report in the near future and the matter will not end there. Sheik Indha Adde told SomaliNet they are going to fight back legally and hold the UN responsible for spreading lies against his administration. He also denied another UN allegation, his involvement in central Somalia’s militia activities, saying he is not familiar with that region and never went to central Somalia in his life.

The UN report on Somalia which was released last week covered many aspects of Somalia's current situation. It blamed Yemen, Ethiopia and another country (Eritrea) for flooding Somalia with fresh weapons and ignoring UN arms embargo on Somalia. According to this report, the interim government of Somalia and its oppositions are arming themselves to the teeth.
