ETHIOPIA: TURKEY DISCHARGING SHARE IN ENSURING PEACE IN SOMALIA- AMBASSADOR November 11, 2008

(SomaliNet) Turkey is discharging its share in ensuring lasting peace and security in Somalia, the Turkish Ambassador to Ethiopia said.

Turkey is providing humanitarian assistances to Somalia through the European Union, ambassador Ali Riza Colak told WIC.

The Ambassador said Turkey commends and supports the recent peace agreement between the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia and various political parties, adding it would help maintain the peace in that country.

Ensuring peace in Somalia would help maintain reliable peace in the Horn of Africa and bring about positive impact on the economy of neighboring countries, he said, adding Ethiopia is paying huge sacrifice in this regard.

The envoy said the recent peace agreement among the Somali parties is an indication that the activities being undertaken by Ethiopia and other countries involved in assisting Somalia are bearing fruit.

The situation in Somalia is better now, the Ambassador indicated, calling on the international community to give due attention to the Somali issue.-WIC
