PUNTLAND: POLICE ARRESTS 100 WITHOUT CHARGE IN NORTHERN SOMALIA November 11, 2008

(SomaliNet) The police in Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region and the breakaway republic of Somaliland have detained some 100 people without charge.

Reports say the arrests were allegedly ordered by the two regions' Intelligence Services in an attempt to find those behind the October terror attacks.

Sources say among the arrested is the head of the Elman Human Rights group, who was captured six days ago in Hargeysa, capital of Somaliland.

However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for any of the five massive blasts which rocked the two relatively calm regions on October 29, and left some 23 people killed.

The bomb explosions came shortly the Western-backed transitional government decided to keep foreign forces in Somalia, scraping peace talks with the opposition.-Press TV
