WARSHIPS RESCUE PEOPLE FROM SINKING BOAT April 29, 2005
American and German ships patrolling the Gulf of Aden between Somalia and Yemen rescued eighty-nine people form a sinking boat. It was too late for about two dozen others who were missing and presumed dead. Five bodies were recovered from the sea.
The boat captain told American rescuers 135 people were on board before it broke down.
It is not the first time people lost their lives trying to cross the Gulf of Aden. They often risk their lives and those of their children in poorly equipped, aging and overloaded boats that originate from Somalia. These these accidents are common in the area.
