SOMALI PRIME MINISTER LEAVES SOMALIA May 7, 2005

Reports out of Mogadishu say the prime minister left the country for Nairobi Kenya where his administration is temporarily located. What prompted Mr. Geddi's sudden departure is not known. His last known plans included visiting Kismayo, Somalia’s third largest city before going back to Kenya.

Mr. Geddi escaped unharmed when a bomb exploded in Stadium Mogadishu where he was giving speech to a large crowd earlier this week. There was another incident in the residence of the man who controls Kismayo, Mr. Barre Adan Shire. He was unharmed but two others were wounded in the shootout.

Current situation in Somalia: After two years of reconciliation conference in Nairobi Kenya, a federal parliament and government were setup last year. The government still operates out of Nairobi and is preparing to relocate to Somalia. East African nations pledged troops to help the new government establish and train national armed forces.
