SOMALIA: AIDID JUNIOR OFF TO YEMEN May 19, 2005
<|hussein_aidid.jpg|Hussein Aidid|left|>A Somali delegation led by Hussein M. Aidid, the son n of late Mohamed F. Aidid, who is now a senior cabinet member in the new Somali government flew to Yemen tonight for what insiders described as a sales pitch. Mr Aidid Junior and his team will sell the new government’s agenda to Yemen government in hopes of getting support from President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The delegation will also represent Somalia for Yemen national re-unification day celebrations this weekend. North Yemen and south Yemen were officially re-unified on May 22, 1990 after decades of separation.
Aidid Junior, a former US Marine joined the political ranks and became a militia leader after his father was killed in a fight in 1996. His current ranks include vice-president, minister of interior, and parliamentarian. His faction controls parts of Mogadishu and other areas.
