GENERAL MORGAN LEFT NAIROBI FOR MOGADISHU May 25, 2005

<|morgan.jpg|General Morgan|left|>Former minister of defense, General Mohamed Said Hersi aka Morgan surprised every Somali who knows about him today by going to Mogadishu. Mr. Morgan, his father-in-law former president, Mohamed Siad Barre and many other senior government officials left Mogadishu in tanks and armored vehicles in 1991 after their government was over-run by USC faction.

Today’s surprise visit shows signs of reconciliation and forgiveness among Somalis who have been fighting for so long.

Many high ranking military officers either left Somalia or joined the USC faction after the fall of Siad Barre regime. But, General Morgan whose children live in the US stayed in Somalia and fought Mogadishu based USC faction in other parts of the country for many years. He once controlled the port city of Kismayo, which he lost to Colonel Barre Adan six years ago.

The general landed in Mogadishu in peace and was welcomed as a national hero by his former arch enemies with whom he fought many battles.

Some insiders in the new government say the general broke ranks recently with President Abdulahi Yussuf who is his fellow tribesman and has been close ally for a long time. Although he is not a parliament member and has no title in the new government, he has some political weight in the country.
