SOMALI PRESIDENT MEETS UN ENVOY

<|yusufcall.jpg||left|>Nairobi, May 30 - President Abdullah Yussuf Ahmed of Somalia, met today with the newly appointed Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to Somalia, Ambassador François Lonseny Fall, who assumed office in Nairobi today.
Ambassador Fall has been deployed following the exit of his predecessor Ambassador Winston Tubman, who left office to run for Presidency in his native Liberia.
President Abdullahi Yusuf welcomed him warmly and expressed appreciation for the continued interest of Mr. Kofi Annan in Somalia
Ambassador Fall assured President Yusuf of the commitment of the United Nations under his leadership, to work strenuously for the consolidation of the achievements of the IGAD led peace process.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Fall had a telephone conversation with Somali Speaker of parliament, Hon. Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, who is in Mogadishu. He expressed the hope that they would soon meet
Ambassador Fall will be heading an expanded United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), and his appointment, as a high-calibre official, is intended to raise the profile of Somalia during this critical transitional period.
Ambassador Fall is expected to meet with Somali Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi this afternoon.
A national of Guinea, Ambassador Fall is a former Prime Minister of Guinea.

Director of the Department of Legal and Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Conakry (1996-2000), as well as in various diplomatic posts in Paris, New York, Lagos, Cairo and Conakry (1982-1990).
Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Conakry (1977-1979).
Amb. Fall obtained his master’s degree in law from the University of Conakry (1976).
