SOMALIA: HEAVY FIGHT IN BELEDWEYNE June 7, 2005
<|beledweyne.jpg||left|>Two opposing militias have been fighting non-stop since yesterday in Beledweyne, central Somalia. The fight has intensified today with both sides using rockets and artillery.
The real death toll is not known and some parts of the city inaccessible due to the magnitude of this confrontation. Ten deaths and several injuries have been confirmed so far.
This beautiful central city has been more secure than most southern cities before this new outbreak. City elders and religious leaders are trying to defuse the conflict and stop the bloodshed.
Central Somalia is volatile, and clashes are difficult to defuse and always claim many lives. In nearby Mudug and Galgudud provinces, two tribes have been fighting since last year and 100s of people were killed. Just yesterday a group of armed men attacked a small town in Mudug and killed everyone they could find.
