SOMALIA: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WELCOMES UN DECISION July 16, 2005

<|un_somalia_0705.jpg||left|>Somali Government speaker, Mr. Abdirahman Dinari who is traveling with the prime minister in African nations told SomaliNet that the government has welcomed yesterday’s UN Security Council decision on Somalia wholeheartedly. The UN Security Council rejected to lift arms embargo on Somalia and asked the government and African nations who want to deploy peace keeping forces and military hardware in Somalia to come up with detailed plans before the embargo can be lifted.

Mr. Dinari said the government’s doors are wide open and it is welcoming anyone who wants to help Somalia stand on its feet again after fourteen years of chaos and lawlessness. "A lot of money and more than two years have been spent to establish this government and we are determined to rescue our nation from the anarchy that plagued the country for so long." said Mr. Dinari.

He underscored the government’s need to lead the country without the parliament’s constant interference and parallel governing role. "If the parliament plays the government’s role why do we have one? The parliament should function as legislature body only." said Mr. Dinari.

Abdirahman also explained why the government is rehabilitating former army and police members. He said "The government’s utmost goal is peace in all Somalia. However, in order to enforce the peace we need security forces. Only those who don’t want law and order to prevail in Somalia are against strong government. We are saying no to anyone who tries to derail our forward movement"
