ARMED CLASHES IN SOMALIA August 17, 2005

A renewed tribal war has been reported in towns surrounding central city of Baydhabo. A fierce fight is going on in Idale and other small towns, some of them their houses set on fire.

Casualties have been reported and both sides are getting re-enforcements as the fight is intensifying by the hour.

Witnesses said today’s fight is continuation of last week’s clashes in which about a dozen people were killed and many more wounded. The conflict stems from water well in the area which both sides claim ownership the elders’ failure to calm the situation.

Somalia has been without a central government for over a decade and people in many parts of the country solve problems with guns if no other solution is foreseeable.
