SOMALI PRESIDENT LEFT FOR SAUDI ARABIA August 19, 2005
Somali president, Mr. Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed left Jowhar, his government's temporary headquarters midday today for Riyad, Saudi Arabia after he got an invitation from King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.
Government spokesman, Mr. Abdirahman Dinari told SomaliNet the president will stop in Nairobi, but did not say how long he will stay in Kenya. The president and Saudi King will discuss about Somalia's future and the Kingdom’s eagerness to participate in Somalia's recovery process. Somalia has been in chaos for the past fourteen years.
Prime Minister Mr. Ali Mohamed Gedi is also in Nairobi for meetings with international donors. Also, the speaker of the house who defied the president's order to go to Jowhar after Nairobi's long reconciliation conference and went to Mogadishu instead is also be in Nairobi. Sharif Hassan’s visit to Nairobi is not clear but some news sources say Kenyan government invited him in order to persuade him and the prime minister to work together for the common goal. Mr. Hassan and large number of Somali parliamentarians are based in Mogadishu and have nor formal communications with the government.
