SOMALIA: KIDNAPPED MOGADISHU MAN FOUND DEAD September 27, 2005

The body of Isse Ma’alin Abdulle who was held hostage for ransom for over two months was found this morning. His family told SomaliNet the kidnappers called them last night and threatened to kill him unless the ransom money is paid. A family member said "We were told to pay the money or collect his body in the morning. We are poor and could not pay a dime." The family discovered the gruesome murder after they went to the location they were told the body will be dumped in the morning. He had a fatal bullet wound to the head.

Isse was tortured before he was finally killed. His body sustained many injuries and showed signs of trauma. He was blindfolded with arms bound behind his back when the body was discovered.

Mogadishu, one of the most dangerous cities in the world has been like this since the fall of Somalia state in 1991. At least eight people were killed in Mogadishu in two separate incidents just last week. Not even one of the warlords, who strangled the city for so long condemned these barbaric murders or sent condolences to the families the innocent victims publicly. Killings like these go unnoticed by those who claim authority in the city regularly.

The capital received much more than its share of Somalia’s civil war and it needs some sort of authority with iron fist. Needlessly, there are two rival mayors, two rival governors, over a dozen opposing militia leaders, many tribal Islamic courts and uncountable human rights groups in Mogadishu. The city needs one unified authority.
