PREMIER LEAGUE: LIVERPOOL STILL HUNTING MANCHESTER’S HEINZE-SAYS BENITEZ July 23, 2007
(SomaliNet) Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has today insisted they are still chasing Gabriel Heinze.
However, reports indicate that Manchester United are refusing to sell the Argentina left-back to one of their big Premier League rivals.
That appeared to rule Liverpool out of the running even though they met United's valuation for the player.
But Benitez has now confirmed that lawyers are currently working on a deal to buy Heinze, 29.
He said: “We made an offer which they rejected.
“The lawyers are now working on it and so we have to wait. He’s a good player.”
United boss Alex Ferguson last week said: “I can assure you, Liverpool will not be getting Gabriel Heinze.
“We can put that to bed right now and we have done so. We have had a couple offers for him and we have turned them down.”
It later emerged that Heinze had a letter signed by United chief executive David Gill promising he could leave if they received a offer in excess of £6million.
The player's representatives were reported to be considering legal action to push through the controversial deal.
And it appears the Reds are also now willing to go to court to get their man.-The Sun
