CHELSEA’S JOHN TERRY OUT FOR FIRST MONTH WITH A KNEE INJURY August 5, 2007
(SomaliNet) Chelsea’s John Terry is out for the first month of the season with a knee injury.
The Blues’ England skipper underwent a scan yesterday afternoon which confirmed he has suffered medial ligament damage.
He is ruled out of today's Community Shield clash with Manchester United and will miss England's Wembley friendly against Gemany on August 22.
The defender is also doutbtful for the crucial European Campionship qualifiers against Israel and Russia next month.
Terry's absence is a major blow to England boss Steve McClaren, who is already without central defenders Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate, as well as Jamie Carragher who has announced his international retirement.
That leaves Rio Ferdinand as England's only experienced international centre-half for the Germany clash.
But it is also a major blow to Chelsea's hopes of getting the season off to a flying start.
Saturday's scan confirmed Terry will be out of action for at least four weeks.
And his absence will force Blues boss Jose Mourinho to step up his efforts to complete the signing of Brazilian international Alex before Sunday's Premier League opener at home to Birmingham.-The Sun
