PREMIER LEAGUE: EVERTON MANAGER HOPES TO WRAP FERNANDES SIGNING August 18, 2007
(SomaliNet) After the Portuguese midfielder came through the first part of his medical, Everton manager David Moyes is confident of wrapping up the signing of Manuel Fernandes.
The 21-year-old was brought to the Premiership by Portsmouth last summer, and though the South Coast side became embroiled in a legal wrangle with Benfica over the terms of the loan move, he was able to move to Everton on loan in January, where he continued to impress.
"He had the first part of his medical yesterday afternoon, we are hoping that he completes the second part today and we can get the agreement done as soon as we possibly can. It might be that we can get it done for tomorrow, I am not sure," he told the club's official website.
"Manuel was with us on loan last season, so he knows all about us and we hope he will be able to hit the ground running when he arrives.
"He knows about us and what we do, he will give us a different option. We are playing with Lee Carsley and Phil Neville just now in the centre of midfield and he will give us more competition there.
"But he is a different type of player, with a bit more craft. At 21 he was a big player in the European Under-21 Championships for Portugal and we are delighted to have him."- Eurosport
