PREMIER LEAGUE: GUNNERS' MANAGER EXPECTED TO SIGN ON FRIDAY September 6, 2007
(SomaliNet) The Gunner’s manager, Arsene Wenger is expected to announce the signing of a new three-year contract at Arsenal in a press conference on Friday.
The Frenchman has legendary status in North London but has been procrastinating over a new deal since last season, although has always maintained his commitment to the club for whom he has delivered unprecedented success.
Wenger, 57, has been at Arsenal for over ten years and oversaw their transformation from so-called long-ballers to one of the most attractive footballing sides in the world.
But the departure of key names over the years, including Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira, coupled with the recent dominance of cash-rich rivals such as Manchester United and Chelsea, led many to speculate that he was becoming frustrated with the youth policy he has harboured so well.
And when close friend and ally David Dein left the club in acrimonious circumstances last season, many thought his time at the Emirates was up.
But the man himself insisted that he was happy to work within these constraints and denied that any decision he made would be swayed by takeover rumours.
"They fight for each other, they have a great togetherness and love for the game," he declared recently. "They tell me certain things, and I believe or believe not, then I say 'listen, I want to sign only one year'.
"I am only focusing on what is good for the club, on the team. Anything else that happens does not concern me."
