PREMIER LEAGUE - TONY ADAMS EXPECTED TO BE CONFIRMED AS NEW MANAGER October 28, 2008

(SomaliNet) Portsmouth have called a lunch-time press conference at which Tony Adams is expected to be confirmed as their new manager.

Adams served as an assistant to ex-Pompey boss Harry Redknapp, who joined Tottenham on Saturday, and his appointment to the Fratton Park hotseat will be formalised at 1pm UK time.

Reports claim the former Arsenal and England defender was told on Monday night that he will be given the job and take charge for Wednesday's Premier League meeting with Liverpool.

Redknapp left Portsmouth to replace Juande Ramos, ending a three-year spell on the south coast that saw the club achieve their highest league position since the 1950s and culminated with FA Cup victory at Wembley in May.

During that time he worked closely with Adams and Joe Jordan, and went on record to Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie praising both men for their contribution to the club's success.

"You've got Joe and Tony and they are terrific guys," he said. "Tony is up-and-coming in the managerial game and works very hard."

The 42-year-old Adams took temporary charge of the Portsmouth team for their 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday, but is expected to be confirmed as Redknapp's long-term successor later on Tuesday.-Eurosport
