PHILIPPINES: 39 KILLED IN FERRY ACCIDENT IN PHILIPPINES November 5, 2008
(SomaliNet) A ferry capsized after it was hit by a whirlwind near the island of Masbate in Philippines killing at least 39 people, the police said.
Seventy-six passengers were saved but six are still missing. Accidents involving ferries, which are often overcrowded, are a regular occurence in the Philippines.
A ferry carrying 850 passengers sank off the island of Sibuyan in June. Only 57 people survived the accident.-Agencies
