PAKISTAN: 22 ISLAMIST FIGHTERS, 3 GOV’T SOLDIERS KILLED IN FIGHTING November 10, 2008

(SomaliNet) At least 22 Islamist fighters and three government soldiers died in fierce fighting in northwest Pakistan.

Sources say the clashes occurred along the border with Afghanistan.

During the fighting, the government forces also deployed heavy artillery and helicopters. The attacks were directed at a local Islamist leader, Maulana Fazlula, who has ties with the Taliban and al-Qaeda.-RNW
