FRANCE: FRENCH ANTI-TERRORIST SQUAD TRACKS TRAIN SABOTEURS November 11, 2008
(SomaliNet) French anti-terrorism experts are to begin an investigation into a series of sabotage actions against high-speed trains on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, dozens of trains were delayed when saboteurs jammed metal pipes into the overhead power lines on four sections of the railway line between Paris and Lille. Trains to Amsterdam, Brussels and London were forced to take detours. Thousands of passengers had their journeys disrupted.
On Sunday, another high-speed train hit a pair of concrete blocks placed on a line in southwest France. No-one was injured and the train was only slightly damaged.
Although the investigation was originally started by local police, they have now handed over the case file to the special anti-terrorism unit in Paris.-RNW
