UK: MORE STORMS ARE EXPECTED December 4, 2006

(SomaliNet) Parts of Britain are bracing themselves for yet more severe gales; Scotland could be hit particularly hard, while rain in south-west England is expected to spread across much of the country. The Met office has issued severe weather warnings for some areas of Scotland while heavy rain and wind are continuing to batter many other parts of the UK.

Flooding is feared in Scotland as forecasters predict between 25 and 50mm of rain could fall over the next few days, with up to 75mm possible in total. Gales have caused widespread disruption over the past two days killing at least one person and other disruption.

Travelers on the roads and seas were hit by delays as emergency services dealt with a stream of incidents and several major routes were closed. Gusts of up to 85mph were recorded at The Needles, on the Isle of Wight, on Sundayand up to 74mph on the Isle of Man.
