The Egyptian interior ministry has said security forces in Egypt have mistakenly killed 12 people, including Mexican tourists during an anti-terror operation, BBC reported Monday morning that the tourists were travelling in four buses that entered a "banned area" in the Wahat area of the Western Desert, the ministry said in a statement.

BBC  had  cited late  Friday the Saudi Arabian government as saying some 87 people have died after a crane collapsed on the Grand Mosque in the Muslim holy city of Mecca.

Saudi Arabian civil defence authority reportedly said on Twitter that more than 180 people were injured in the accident, according to BBC who added that images from the scene showed part of a huge red crane crashed through the mosque's roof. The cause of the collapse is not known.

The U.S State Department has said its Somalia Mission began work Tuesday without an ambassador or an embassy and based in Kenya, Daily Nation reported.

Daily Nation says U.S diplomats will not be based in Mogadishu, scene of the infamous "Black Hawk Down" battle in 1993 that left 18 US servicemen and many hundreds of Somalis dead.
