Some 52 Ethiopians are being held by Police in Kilimanjaro Region for allegedly entering Tanzania illegally, Moshi District Commissioner Novatus Makunga said in a statement.
The Citizen reported Saturday that 44 of the illegal immigrants were caught aboard a lorry belonging to a resident of Mianzini suburb in Arusha, according to Mr Makunga, who doubles as the chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the district.

Mr Makunga reportedly said the Ethiopians were arrested at the Changbay area on Arusha-Moshi highway aboard the lorry they were travelling in which had toilet paper.
“They were hidden by boxes of toilet paper in the lorry,” explained Mr Makunga, adding that other eight illegal immigrants, also from Ethiopia, were caught loitering on the road at around 7am at the KDC area in Moshi Municipality.

According to news reports, Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander Geofrey Kamwela confirmed the arrests, saying investigation was in progress to ascertain routes through which they illegally entered the country and a person involved in trafficking them( Source: The Citizen)
