Following a video allegedly posted by the Al-Shabaab under a YouTube link “the final message of the Kampala warrior” went viral on social media, Uganda’s security agencies are reportedly on high alert.

Daily Monitor says a statement issued by the Uganda  police read in part that “The Police and its sister security agencies are actively examining the contents and authenticity of a YouTube link the final message of the Kampala warrior.”

The statement indicates that the video released four days ago depicts an unmasked Al-Shabaab man calling for Jihad-inspired attacks on Uganda and Burundi; as well as publicly calling for independent actors to join the movement in Somalia.

“As the public already knows the threat of terrorism whether real or perceived has never been taken for granted by security,” the statement further read. According to police, although the threat has no specific information about what might be planned, the security and intelligence community continues to gather credible intelligence on the general threat.

In April, Ugandan Police issued a terror alert following an attack on Garissa University College in Kenya on April 2, which the al-Shaabab claimed responsibility. Uganda Police reportedly warned that the attackers were now planning to harm Uganda whose soldiers have been fighting al-Shabaab in Somalia since 2007.
