At least four people were killed and 18 injured in a suicide car bomb attack on Friday near the U.S. Consulate in the Kurdish Iraqi city of Irbil, a local police source confirmed Saturday.
According to Twitter accounts linked to ISIS, the terror group has claimed responsibility saying the U.S. Consulate was the target of the attack, CNN reported.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf reportedly said all U.S. Consulate personnel were safe and accounted for following the explosion.
CNN says Anadolu, Turkey's semiofficial news agency, reported Saturday that the blast killed two Turkish citizens and wounded five.
Irbil is the capital of Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government.
