Malaysia: Earthquake death toll rises to 13- Police

A police chief, Mohamad Farhan Lee Abdullah from Malaysia’s Ranau district said on Saturday that two bodies were recovered Friday night following a magnitude 5.9 earthquake that hit Mount Kinabalu.

VOA says the earthquake which struck   on Friday sent rubble and boulders down the slopes of Mount Kinabalu killing at least 13 people. The two bodies recovered Friday night reportedly includes a 30-year-old local guide and a 12-year-old Singaporean girl who was part of a group of 38 primary school students and two teachers from Singapore.

China: Death toll from capsized ship on Yangtze River nears 400-officials

At least 396 deaths have on Saturday been confirmed from the ship that capsized on the Yangtze River, Xinhua reported saying disaster teams found hundreds more bodies Friday night and into Saturday morning.

Since the Eastern Star Ship went down in severe weather late Monday, only 14 people have been reportedly rescued, and authorities say there is no chance that any of the other 456 people onboard survived according to Xinhua.

UK: Over 60 immigrants found locked up in container in eastern Essex

Some 68 immigrants reportedly from different nationalities were on Thursday night found locked in a container at a port in eastern Essex, local media reported on Friday according to Xinhua.The cargo container which was reportedly from Holland was found by the UK Border Force at Harwich International Port during routine checks at about 10 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Thursday.

China: Over 330 deaths confirmed from capsized ship on Yangtze River

At least 331 deaths have been confirmed as of 8 a.m. Saturday from a Chinese cruise ship that capsized on the Yangtze River during freak weather,  Xinhua has reported.Meanwhile, the rescue headquarters in Jianli, central China's Hubei Province reportedly said only 14 people have been found alive so far, while another 111 people remain missing.

The Eastern Star cruise ship, carrying 456 people onboard, was on a 11-day trip along the Yangtze River when it was immediately overturned by a tornado on Monday night in Jianli.

Indian army hunting militants who killed 20 soldiers

India has launched a shoot-to-kill operation in its northeastern region to find the militants who killed 20 soldiers and wounded a dozen others, officials said according to VOA. 

Reports say the militants ambushed an army troop convoy in Manipur state on Thursday using rocket-propelled grenades and bombs.

Several rebel groups have reportedly claimed responsibility for the assault, which the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called "mindless" and "very distressing."

Somali man among Islamic State group who killed 47 in Iraq

A Somali man has been named among members of the Islamic State group who have claimed a suicide attack on an Iraqi police base north of Baghdad which reportedly killed at least 47 people.

Associated Press reported IS as saying in an online statement that a Somali man detonated an explosives-rigged armoured vehicle inside the base, while a Tajik and a Syrian blew up a Humvee and a truck in the area,

UK: ‘We haven’t got a job” for Fat and unfit Police officers- Britain’s most senior officer

Britain's most senior officer, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has reportedly said fat and unfit police must improve their physical condition or "we haven't got a job for them", AP reported Tuesday morning.

According to reports, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe described the standard of an annual fitness test that officers must complete as "too low". Officers are assessed with a 15-metre shuttle run "bleep" test, which became compulsory from September.

Passenger ship carrying 458 people sink in China's Yangtze River, 8 people so far rescued

Only eight people have so far been reported rescued after a passenger ship carrying 458 people sank Monday night in the Hubei section of China's Yangtze River, according to Xinhua. According to reports, the ship sank at around 9:28 p.m. in the Jianli (Hubei Province) section of the Yangtze River,  the Yangtze River navigation administration said.

Russia threatens more EU visa ban should West continue sanctions against Moscow

The Russian Foreign Ministry cautioned on Monday that Moscow is ready to expand its travel ban list of European Union (EU) officials if the West increases its own blacklist of  Russian officials, according to Xinhua.

Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign ministry  reportedly said Moscow will cancel its travel ban list as soon as the West does the same, adding that Russia's blacklist is a "forced" response to the sanctions imposed by the EU and the United States.

More than 2 people , mostly blacks 'killed' by U.S police per day in 2015-Report

According to a Washington Post report, U.S. law enforcement officials have shot and killed at least 385 people so far in 2015, a rate which Xinhua says is more than two per day. Xinhua cited the Washington post as saying the death rate in 2015 alone is more than twice that tallied by the Federal Bureau of Investigation over the past decade.
