Fifa President Sepp Blatter suspended for 90 days

After the Swiss attorney general opened criminal proceedings against Blatter, 79, last month members of Fifa's ethics committee met this week and BBC reported Wednesday evening that Blatter has received a provisional suspension for 90 days.

Blatter is reportedly accused of signing a contract "unfavourable" to football's governing body and making a "disloyal payment" to Uefa president Michel Platini, 60.

Kenya rejects Somalia’s border case at Court of Justice (ICJ)

Daily Nation reported Wednesday that Kenya has formally rejected Somalia’s boundary dispute case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), terming it “invalid.”

Somalia reportede to International Court of Justice (ICJ) to demand that its boundary be adjusted to give Mogadishu a huge chunk of it with significant oil deposits.

Daily Nation says the area in contest is about 100,000 square kilometres, forming a triangle east of the Kenya coast. According to reports, Kenya and Somalia reached an MoU in 2009, which was then deposited to the UN in 2011.

Egypt: Security ‘mistakenly’ kills 12 including Mexican tourists

The Egyptian interior ministry has said security forces in Egypt have mistakenly killed 12 people, including Mexican tourists during an anti-terror operation, BBC reported Monday morning that the tourists were travelling in four buses that entered a "banned area" in the Wahat area of the Western Desert, the ministry said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia: Death toll reaches 107 after cranes collapses on Mosque in Mecca

CNN has reported early Saturday morning that the death toll has reached 107 after a crane collapsed on Mosque in Mecca.

BBC  had  cited late  Friday the Saudi Arabian government as saying some 87 people have died after a crane collapsed on the Grand Mosque in the Muslim holy city of Mecca.

Saudi Arabian civil defence authority reportedly said on Twitter that more than 180 people were injured in the accident, according to BBC who added that images from the scene showed part of a huge red crane crashed through the mosque's roof. The cause of the collapse is not known.

Somalia: President Mohamoud invites Italy to invest in Somalia

Claiming that Somalia has recovered sufficiently from years of anarchy, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud has invited Italians to take advantage of Somalia’s unique investment opportunities, Africa Review reported Saturday.

The Somali leader reportedly made the call while on an official visit to Italy where he met with his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella in Rome on Friday and gave an update of Somalia’s “Somalia has vast untapped resources, which can be exploited and could turn Somalia into an economic leader in Africa,” President Mohamoud reportedly said.

Somalia: Al-Shabab kills 50 AMISOM soldiers, mainly from Uganda- Al Jazeera

A spokesman for Al-Shabab fighters has told Al Jazeera that the armed group  have killed "scores" of African Union troops (AMISOM) in an attack south of Somali capital, Mogadishu, Al Jazeera reported Tuesday adding that the assault  in Janaale, early on Tuesday was confirmed by residents, but an exact casualty figure was not immediately available.

China: British-Somali born athlete Mo Farah wins gold in Beijing

Mo Farah has won Britain's first gold at the World Athletics Championships in the 10,000m race on Sunday. 

According to BBC, the Olympic medalist ran to victory in 27 minutes 01.13 seconds at the event in Beijing, China.

Mo's now won four world titles plus two Olympic gold medals. BBC says next up, he will be hoping to grab gold in the 5,000m race too.
