Over 100,000 South Sudanese displaced in only two months-UN

In just two months, more than 100,000 people have fled conflict in South Sudan, the UN has said. The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) said that is five times that number have been forced to leave the country since late 2013.

UN Radio broadcast Tuesday that heavy fighting in South Sudan’s Unity and Upper Nile states has also forced aid agencies to pull out, unable to deliver essential supplies to 650,000 people.At least 60,000 South Sudanese have sought shelter abroad since the start of the year, the UN refugee agency UNHCR said according to UN Radio.

Egypt: 92% of Egyptian women have undergone genital mutilation- UN Radio

According to a radio report by the UN, atleast 92 per cent of girls and women in Egypt have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM), despite the fact that the procedure was criminalized in the country in 2008.

FGM, as it is often referred to, is frequently rooted in cultural and religious beliefs, but has no medical benefit. According to the UN Radio, the United the Nations Development Programme(UNDP) has been working with the Egyptian authorities to reduce the practice.
